The Virtual Assistant task all business owners REALLY want.

And by all I mean about 20 female small business owners on facebook.

Have you ever assumed you knew EXACTLY what your clients needed from you for their small business, so you put so much emphasis on that particular service that you were thoroughly surprised when your target prospects weren’t interested?

I know I was.

Not only do I draft correspondence for my day job as an administrative assistant for a financial advisor, but I also constantly see women in direct sales run into support groups frantically looking for help on how to respond to nasty comments from clients or internet trolls.

So, I reasonably assumed that there was a big need for correspondence drafting! Or, writing what someone else wants to express, but doesn’t have the time, patience or ability to write themselves.

As you can see by the overwhelming, although small, pool of votes, drafting correspondence was NOT what small business owners wanted help with.

From this limited poll, at least, it appears they really want bookkeeping services.

They’d even be happy with someone putting their income and expenses in a very simple, very basic, Excel log! (Which I also do as part of my day job, by the way.) I was surprised, but not deterred because now that I know what small business owners REALLY want from a Virtual Assistant, I can put emphasis on that aspect of my business!

So, what I’ve learned from this quick experiment, and what I hope you can take away and use to advance your own administrative pursuits, is that if you are pushing something, and no one is responding, figure out what they really want and push that instead! It may inspire you to do something new, like offer a free Simple Income/Expense Log for new Virtual Assistants or small business owners!
