Top Tips: Reducing Stress for Entrepreneurs

I don’t know about you, but the odds of me working at least a little over every weekend are pretty close to 101%.

One of the things I really struggle with is fully disconnecting from my work when I’m supposed to have a day off or when it is after-hours. Because of this, I often found myself burning out midweek and dying for the weekend. . . Which I would still work through.

Do you find yourself in this same cycle and getting real tired of it. . . Real quick?

Here are some small changes I started making to help transition me into a healthier work/life balance:

I no longer touch client work when I’m eating.

I mean, I may still work on my own stuff or surf the web on my computer, but I am not going to act like I don’t deserve a breakfast/lunch/snack/dinner break anymore.

I don’t respond to clients immediately.

Oh, I’m going to respond soon, but I would stress myself out trying to juggle working on a project and answering unrelated emails at the same time.

Now, I close out my email tab when I am working and only open it if I need to communicate with the client whose items I am working on at that moment.

I take breaks.

As soon as I feel my mind start to drift, I get up and walk away from my workstation. Whether I head to the bathroom, to the fridge, to Walmart, wherever. I’m going to head that way.

I’ve been keeping track lately and it takes a little bit over an hour of non-stop work before my brain starts wandering, and it only takes me about 15 minutes to clear my head and get back in the game.

And as a business owner, I’d rather take that quick 15 and come back refreshed than force myself into a fog and start slurring my words on my screen, lol!

I go on day-cations.

I am sorry, but I work too hard to make money to do nothing with it.

In the last month, I’ve gone to the Aquarium, the Beach, and my mother-in-law’s house.
That may not seem like nothing to some, but for a family that goes to only one place A YEAR, going to multiple places in a short period of time is a BIG change. And I dig it, lol!!!

I deleted my work email and apps off my phone.

OKAY OKAY OKAY!!!!! I haven’t done this one, YET, but I will! I promise that to MYSELF.

I love my clients, but if I didn’t sleep well that night, and I wake up to an SOS notification, it can instantly stress me out.

At the end of the day, I just had to realize that I deserve some time away from my business to enjoy the fruits of my labor!
